Robert Wardy & Nur Yasmin, Jakarta – Police have seized an ambulance in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, which they presume was being used to carry stones to the location of an ongoing mass protest by supporters of losing presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto.
The protest rally in front of the offices of the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) in Central Jakarta against the results of last month's presidential and legislative elections turned violent late on Tuesday.
"We secured an ambulance marked with the logo of a political party – I don't want to mention which party. It was loaded with stones and tools. We already secured it," National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. M. Iqbal said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He added that police also found envelopes stuffed with cash inside the ambulance and that this was likely used to pay protestors for their participation in the rally.
A photo circulating on social shows the logo of Prabowo's Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) on the sides of the ambulance, which is believed to have been brought to Jakarta from Tasikmalaya, West Java.
Iqbal said the Jakarta Police are currently investigating the matter.
