Bayu Marhaenjati & Christian Lee, Jakarta – The Jakarta Police's general crimes unit questioned retired military general Kivlan Zen, a supporter of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, on Thursday as a witness in the treason case against political activist Eggi Sudjana.

Eggi, who is also in the Prabowo camp, was arrested for treason on Tuesday for threatening a mass protest against what he perceived as "serious fraud" in the 2019 presidential election.

The 72-year-old former chief of staff of the Indonesian Army Strategic Command (Kostrad) was subjected to a marathon interrogation session, which began at around 11 a.m. on Thursday and ended at 1 a.m. on Friday.

"Thank God, [I am] fine. The interrogation is over. [I was asked] 51 questions. We discussed everything about the viral [video of Eggi proclaiming 'people power']," Kivlan said on Friday.

"Today's interrogation has finished, so I am just waiting for the authorities to make a decision. I have explained everything. [I was asked] questions on what was reported about the viral [video]," he said.

Kivlan said investigators treated him well and that there was no coercion involved.

"Everything is good. The police investigators were friendly and I answered [their questions] happily and calmly. Nothing bad happened; it's all good," he said.

Kivlan said he would comply with legal procedures and expressed hope that others did the same.

"I just have to wait for the investigators' decision. I will accept it as it is. The election process goes in accordance with the applicable law. I will follow the process; I will go through Bawaslu [Election Supervisory Agency]. Others should do the same, follow the applicable law to show dissatisfaction with the election," he said. "I am just a citizen, a nobody, I am only fighting for justice and truth."

Kivlan was reported to police for treason and for spreading fake news on May 7, after calling on Prabowo supporters to "liquidate" the incumbent, Joko "Jokowi" Widodo. Police also questioned him for five hours on Monday.

The retired general called the treason allegations against him into question, saying he does not have the power to topple the government.

"I don't have weapons, I don't have armed followers, and I never said we would form a new government," Kivlan said on Monday, as quoted by Kompas.com.
