Jakarta – The Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) has terminated, as of this month, contracts with dozens of hospitals that have not yet received accreditation from the Hospital Accreditation Committee (KARS), including some in Greater Jakarta.
However, the Health Ministry has asked the agency to extend its contract with recommended hospitals. The ministry has asked the agency to extend its contract with 20 unaccredited hospitals in Jakarta, seven in Bekasi and Bogor regencies, six in Tangerang, four in Depok and Serang, three in Tangerang regency, and two in South Tangerang and Bogor.
BPJS Kesehatan spokesperson M. Iqbal Anas Maruf confirmed that it would sign new contracts with the recommended hospitals. "Hopefully, it will be completed this month," he said as reported by kompas.com.
The acting head of the Jakarta Health Agency, Khafifah Any, said two of the terminated city-owned hospitals, Jatipadang and Kebayoran Lama, were due to be accredited in June.
Jatipadang hospital director Rismasari said the hospital had applied for accreditation in November and was waiting on the KARS to evaluate it. "We are not the only hospital, there are many others that need accreditation," she added.
Meanwhile, BPJS patients are being urged to visit accredited hospitals. Those who are patients at hospitals that are no longer BPJS Kesehatan partners have been asked to obtain new referrals from community health centers (Puskesmas) or clinics.
The agency will still cover patients' hospitalization fees at the terminated hospitals prior to Jan. 1. (ars)
