The Amnesty report 'Dont' Bother, just let him die: Killing with impunity in Papua' is yet another grave indictment of the Indonesian Government and its repressive rule over West Papua. Amnesty documents 69 cases of suspected unlawful killings by security forces – police and military – between January 2010 and February 2018, with 95 victims. Almost all the victims were indigenous Papuan. It is outrageous that not one of the perpetrators was held to account by an independent institution.

To its deep shame and discredit the New Zealand Government persists in giving Indonesia the benefit of doubt-making only mild representations about human rights concerns while simultaneously strengthening its ties to Indonesian security forces. *This report is further confirmation that Indonesia's talk of addressing past human rights crimes remains nothing more than that. We should not be training officers of the same military force who are getting away with crimes such as the 2014 massacre of four Papuan schoolboys.

West Papua action calls on the New Zealand government to cut off all military ties to Indonesia and join with other Pacific nations in calling on Indonesia to allow an independent fact finding mission to visit the territory.
