Addin Anugrah Siwi, Beijing – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said on Wednesday that he had secured a new financing commitment worth approximately $17 billion from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to support a range of development projects in Indonesia between 2025 and 2029.
The funding commitment was one of the key outcomes of Purbaya's visit to Beijing, where he met with AIIB executives, global investors, and Chinese financial authorities to strengthen economic cooperation and promote Indonesia's planned Panda bond issuance.
Purbaya said discussions with AIIB were extensive and resulted in a strategic agreement that would play an important role in financing Indonesia's development agenda.
"Our discussions with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank were both productive and comprehensive. Most importantly, we successfully secured approximately $17 billion in financing for development projects in Indonesia between 2025 and 2029," Purbaya said after a meeting at AIIB headquarters in Beijing.
According to Purbaya, the funding is part of a multi-year rolling pipeline that has been discussed with AIIB. The commitment ensures continued financial support from the multilateral lender for Indonesia's national development priorities over the coming years.
The new financing is expected to strengthen the government's funding capacity while accelerating the implementation of strategic projects that require long-term investment.
Purbaya also said AIIB had expressed interest in establishing a representative office in Jakarta. Such a presence, he said, would facilitate coordination and oversight of AIIB-backed development projects across Indonesia.
"AIIB is also interested in setting up a representative office in Jakarta. We welcome that intention, and I hope the office will be operational by June next year," Purbaya said.
