Indonesia, West Papua – The documentary Pesta Babi ("Pig Feast"), which examines land dispossession and the impact of resource extraction and military operations on Indigenous communities in West Papua, was officially released on JubiTV's YouTube channel on 22 May 2026 after being shown at more than 1,800 public viewings.

The film was directed by Mr Dandhy Dwi Laksono and Mr Cypri Jehan Paju Dale and produced through a coalition that includes Ekspedisi Indonesia Baru, Watchdoc, Jubi Media, Greenpeace Indonesia, and LBH Papua Merauke. It traces six decades of land grabs and natural-resource exploitation that organisers say are now intensifying. The online release aims to broaden public access to the film and to create space for discussion of issues facing Papua's Indigenous peoples that have received little wider attention.

The film documents the clearing of an estimated 2.5 million hectares of indigenous land and forest in South Papua for food and energy projects advanced under the government's National Strategic Project framework, alongside the deployment of thousands of soldiers to protect palm oil bioethanol and biodiesel operations from community protest. It portrays how the Malind, Yei, Awyu, and Muyu communities have responded, organising themselves, building networks of solidarity with civil society, pursuing legal challenges in West Papua and Jakarta, and mounting direct civil resistance.

Organisers reported that the screening campaign, which ran for 40 days from 12 April and drew at least 15,000 registrants in Indonesia and abroad, faced significant obstruction. Mrs Susi Haryanti, director of Ekspedisi Indonesia Baru, said the team documented intimidation, persecution, and forced dispersals at no fewer than 52 locations, with some organisers cancelling events and others relocating or screening in secret. The coalition also reported large-scale piracy, with at least 150 YouTube accounts uploading the full film without permission; the team has documented these infringements and reported them to the platform, which has gradually removed dozens of the links. Mrs Haryanti credited the communities, students, and collectives who continued to gather and discuss the situation despite what she described as a shrinking space for democratic expression.
