Arnoldus Kristianus, Jakarta – Indonesia's annual inflation stood at 2.42% in April 2026, with monthly price growth easing to 0.13% as increases in airfares and gasoline were partly offset by falling food prices, according to the Central Statistics Agency.
In March, inflation was recorded at 0.41% month-to-month and 3.48% year-on-year, remaining within the central bank's target range of 2.5 1%.
"Indonesia recorded monthly inflation of 0.13% in April 2026, as the consumer price index (CPI) rose from 110.95 in March to 111.09 in April," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Ateng Hartono, at a press conference on Monday.
By expenditure group, transportation posted the largest increase, with inflation of 0.99% contributing 0.12 percentage points to monthly inflation.
"The main contributors to transportation inflation were airfares, which accounted for 0.11 percentage points, and gasoline at 0.02 percentage points," Ateng said.
Other commodities pushing inflation included cooking oil (0.05 percentage points), tomatoes (0.03), and both rice and prepared meals with side dishes (0.02 each).
The second-largest contributor came from the food and beverage services group, which recorded 0.69% inflation and contributed 0.07 percentage points.
Meanwhile, the food, beverages, and tobacco group recorded deflation of 0.2%, contributing 0.06 percentage points to monthly deflation.
"Commodities contributing to deflation in April 2026 included broiler chicken meat at 0.11 percentage points, gold jewelry at 0.09, bird's eye chili at 0.06, and chicken eggs at 0.06," Ateng said.
On a cumulative basis, year-to-date inflation reached 1.06% in April. Spatially, 30 provinces recorded inflation and eight posted deflation, with the highest inflation in West Papua at 2% and the deepest deflation in Maluku at 0.17%.
By component, core inflation and administered prices both increased, while volatile prices declined.
Ateng said monthly inflation was primarily driven by core inflation, which rose 0.23% and contributed 0.15 percentage points. Key contributors included cooking oil, prepared meals, mobile phones, fried chicken, laptops, and sugar.
Administered prices rose 0.69%, contributing 0.13 percentage points, driven mainly by airfares, gasoline, household fuels, and kretek cigarettes.
Meanwhile, the volatile component recorded deflation of 0.88%, subtracting 0.15 percentage points, led by declines in broiler chicken meat, bird's eye chili, eggs, and red chili.
