Arnoldus Kristianus, Jakarta – Public satisfaction with the performance of the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka cabinet continues to decline, falling to 55.1% in August 2026 from 72.2% in May and 58.4% in July, according to a national survey by Poltracking Indonesia.
According to the pollster, the decline came amid worsening public perceptions of basic-needs prices, unemployment and the implementation of the government's priority programs.
As cabinet satisfaction fell, a majority of respondents also backed a reshuffle. Some 51.9% said ministers' performance was unsatisfactory and a reshuffle was necessary, while 27.9% said a reshuffle was unnecessary.
The survey highlighted concerns over several government priority programs, particularly the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) initiative.
Awareness of MBG was high, with 93.9% of respondents saying they knew about the program. However, that awareness did not translate into strong satisfaction with its implementation.
Hanta Yuda AR, chairman of Poltracking Indonesia, said the main challenge lies in implementation.
"MBG has succeeded in terms of its program's vision, but has failed to translate or implement that vision effectively, which has instead become its weakness or shortcoming," Hanta said.
Satisfaction with the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), which oversees the program, stood at 42.1%, according to the survey presentation. The figure has generally declined from 53.5% in October 2025, although the presentation showed some fluctuations in subsequent surveys.
Public dissatisfaction with MBG also exceeded satisfaction. Some 46.4% of respondents were satisfied with its implementation, compared with 49.3% who were dissatisfied.
Support for continuing the program has also fallen. In August, 42.1% of respondents wanted MBG to continue, down from 51.9% in May and 46.8% in July. Meanwhile, opposition to continuing the program rose from 35% in May to 43% in July and 44.6% in August.
Respondents cited concerns including the taste and nutritional quality of the food, unsuitable side dishes and food poisoning incidents.
Another priority initiative, the Merah Putih Village Cooperative (KDMP), had a 76% public awareness rate. However, 55.6% of respondents said they were not confident the program could improve community self-reliance and welfare.
The Polltracking Indonesia survey assessed economic conditions, priority programs, cabinet performance, law enforcement, anti-corruption efforts and the overall performance of the Prabowo-Gibran administration.
The survey was conducted face-to-face with 1,220 respondents, all of whom were at least college students.
