Eka Yudha Saputra, Jakarta – Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto has warned that officials who are unable to perform their duties or misuse state assets for personal or group gain will face dismissal.
Prabowo began by highlighting Indonesia's economic potential, noting that the country is currently recognized as the eighth largest economy in the world. He expressed confidence that Indonesia could rise to fifth or even fourth place within 15 to 20 years.
However, he said that achieving these goals faces significant obstacles, including the unequal distribution and poor management of national resources, despite the vast potential of Indonesia's wealth.
In addition, corruption, embezzlement, theft of state assets, abuse of power, and the pursuit of personal or group gain remain major challenges to improving the welfare of the people.
"To reach these ambitions, the central government must continuously improve itself and enforce the law to investigate all forms of misconduct. We will not hesitate to dismiss officials who are incompetent," Prabowo said during a guidance session with regional heads from Papua at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on December 16, 2025.
The president also allowed officials who are not committed to serving the people to resign from their positions. "As president, I am assisted by our ministers, and together we are continuously working to safeguard the nation's wealth," he added.
Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia must transform into a modern and prosperous country. He reiterated that while Indonesia is currently the eighth largest economy, it could become the fifth or even fourth largest economy within the next 15 to 20 years.
However, he stressed that achieving these ambitious targets requires a comprehensive improvement in government management. The nation's greatest challenge lies not in its natural resources, but in the ability to manage them honestly and fairly for the welfare of all citizens.
"The problem lies within our government and our management. We must manage our wealth as honestly as possible so that the country's abundant resources can be enjoyed by all people," he said.
Prabowo also emphasized that national transformation should leave no region behind. He does not want to see citizens living in hardship or hunger while the nation possesses such vast wealth.
Therefore, he called on all leadership levels, from ministers and governors to regents and mayors, to work harder to address shortcomings and improve public welfare.
