Government prepares Rp 99.5 trillion in bonuses for civil servants

Jakarta Globe - March 15, 2024

Celvin Sipahutar, Jakarta – Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati confirmed on Friday that financial bonuses for civil servants nationwide will be paid in full, amounting to Rp 99.5 trillion ($6.4 billion).

These additional payments encompass both the Ramadan bonus and the so-called 13th salary, covering both basic salaries and benefits.

The Ramadan bonus, totaling Rp 48.7 trillion, will be disbursed within the next two weeks, midway through the Muslim holy month, Sri Mulyani announced during a news conference at her office in Jakarta.

An additional Rp 50.8 trillion has been allocated for the 13th salary, scheduled to be channeled in June.

"The overall civil servant bonuses have increased by Rp 18 trillion from last year due to a hike in basic salaries," Sri Mulyani said. "I hope civil servants will spend their bonuses on locally-made products to bolster the national economy."

The last time civil servants received bonuses in full was in 2019. In 2020-21, benefits weren't included in bonuses, while in 2022-23, benefits were given at half their usual amount.
