Novali Panji Nugroho, Jakarta – The YouTube channel owned by Tempo has been accessible to the public again on Thursday, December 11, 2025. The YouTube account Tempodotco disappeared on December 9, around 7 in the morning.
Head of Digital Optimization Division Tempo Fadhli Sofyan stated that the media outlet had reacquired Tempo's email and YouTube channel. "The public can now access the channel on YouTube, but some of the content is still in the process of recovery," he said on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
Fadhli estimated that the YouTube account Tempodotco would be fully restored within one to two days. The YouTube data system will restore some of the content that disappeared from the channel.
He mentioned that Tempo's digital team had made several efforts to restore the YouTube channel, including enhancing the digital security layer in the email management system with device-bound session credentials (DBSC). "The digital team of Tempo also worked on restoring the hacked email account, assisted by the YouTube team," said Fadhli.
Tempo's digital team also received an explanation from YouTube Indonesia regarding the suspected cause of the account's disappearance. According to the platform's explanation, one of the channel manager's emails was hijacked by an unknown party. "The modus operandi was possibly using cookie theft," he said.
Cookie theft is a type of cyberattack in which an attacker steals a browser cookie containing a user's valid login session information for a related account. An attacker can steal this session cookie without knowing the account owner's password or two-step verification code.
"Once the attacker obtains your cookie, they can input it into their own browser and directly access your account. They (attackers) appear to the website server as if they were the legitimate you, without needing to go through the login screen," explained YouTube Indonesia to the digital team of Tempo.
When contacted separately, a representative of YouTube Indonesia urged platform users to prioritize account security. Two recommended measures are regularly checking security and activating "session building" for workspace accounts.
"This feature is crucial to prevent hijacking through cookie theft, which is often the mode of hacking these days," said the representative of YouTube Indonesia on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
