Dinda Shabrina, Jakarta – A number of organizations involved in the Civil Society Coalition for KUHAP Reform are calling for a rejection of the draft Criminal Procedure Code Bill (RUU KUHAP), which is scheduled to be brought to a plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR) today, Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

They argue that several articles in the draft have the potential to open up opportunities for abuse of authority by law enforcement officials.

In the call for action, the coalition mentioned that the provisions regarding search, seizure, and wiretapping in the draft RUU KUHAP could be manipulated and used to engineer cases. "The potential for manipulation by law enforcement officials will increase and could lead to innocent victims being at risk," the coalition stated in the action invitation for Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

According to the coalition, the strengthening of investigative authority in the draft also poses a threat to civil liberties, particularly related to privacy and the rights of citizens to be free from arbitrary actions.

They are urging the public to monitor the process of passing the draft law. The rejection action is scheduled to take place at 08:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) in front of the Pancasila Gate, DPR RI Complex, Jakarta.

The KUHAP draft was previously approved by the DPR Commission III and the government to be brought to the plenary session today, November 18, 2025.
