Juan Ardya Guardiola, Jakarta – Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) on Wednesday alleged that a member of the National Police's elite counterterrorism unit, Detachment 88, was abducted and tortured by military personnel acting on the request of a businessman.

Neither the National Police nor the Indonesian Military has issued a statement on the alleged incident. Requests for clarification from police officials went unanswered.

According to IPW, 1st Brigadier F was seized by members of the Indonesian Military's Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais) on July 25 at the Borobudur Hotel in Jakarta.

IPW Chairman Sugeng Teguh Santoso claimed the operation was carried out at the behest of a businessman identified by the initials FYH.

"Indonesia Police Watch condemns the actions of members of the Strategic Intelligence Agency who arrested, tortured, and detained 1st Brigadier F – a member of Detachment 88 – without any warrant, solely to accommodate the request of a civilian identified as FYH during the incident at the Borobudur Hotel on July 25, 2025," Sugeng said in a written statement.

The NGO said the incident took place while the officer was conducting an intelligence operation to track and monitor FYH, who was dining at the hotel's restaurant.

Upon realizing he was being tailed, FYH allegedly contacted a senior military officer seeking protection. Minutes later, Bais personnel arrived and detained the police officer, Sugeng said.

IPW called on the police to publicly disclose details of the case and launch a transparent investigation into the alleged abduction.
