Jihan Ristiyanti, Jakarta – The Directorate of Drug Crime of the Indonesian National Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Barerskrim Polri) showed an increase in cocaine use in Indonesia from 2024 to 2025.

"This was found after the disclosure of a case involving the distribution of 25 kilograms of cocaine in the Aceh and North Sumatra regions," said the Head of Drug Crime Investigation Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, as quoted from the official Polri website on Saturday, April 19, 2025.

According to Eko, cocaine is among the types of drugs that are quite expensive, thus, its distribution has been limited. In addition, this type of narcotic is said to be used only by certain groups.

Earlier, personnel from the Narcotics Unit of the Langsa Police Resort in Aceh uncovered a cocaine distribution network weighing 25 kilograms. On Thursday, April 10, 2025, six people were arrested in different locations in Aceh and North Sumatra.

As quoted from Antara, the Langsa Police Chief, AKBP Mughi Prasetyo Habrianto, stated that the perpetrators were drug dealers operating across provinces. This case was revealed following an investigation since February 2025. The cocaine was planned to be distributed in Aceh for Rp100 million per kilogram.

Quoting from the official website of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), last year, they uncovered a case of an international network of cocaine distribution called the Golden Triangle and Golden Peacock in October 2024. They found 2,366 grams of cocaine carried by a woman with the initials BR at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
