Eka Yudha Saputra, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto expressed his appreciation for the performance of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) during the homecoming and return flow of Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijriah or the 2025 Eid holiday. According to him, the police frequently face criticism despite their hard work in regulating traffic.
"The police, who are most often berated and blamed, are actually working tirelessly under the scorching sun, unbeknownst to us, to protect us and regulate traffic," said Prabowo during an Economic Forum at Menara Mandiri, Senayan, Jakarta on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, as quoted from a written statement.
The head of state opined that acts of kindness tend to be forgotten without expressions of gratitude, while mistakes linger in the memories of most people. "So, I take this opportunity to express my appreciation," he said.
During the event, Prabowo claimed that this year's homecoming flow was larger than last year's, yet it could be traversed without significant traffic congestion. According to him, all agencies had worked hard so that the Ramadan fasting month and the homecoming and return events proceeded smoothly.
Furthermore, the Chairman of the Gerindra Party also mentioned the achievement of a 30 percent reduction in the number of accidents during the Eid holiday period. "This is the result of hard work, and it is the hard work of the Ministry of Transportation and the Indonesian National Police, including the Indonesian National Armed Forces," said Prabowo.
This was conveyed by the Head of the Traffic Corps of the Indonesian National Police Inspector General Polisi Agus Suryonugroho. He stated that the result was based on his institution's monitoring during the implementation of the one-way system from KM 414 of the Kalikangkung Toll Road to KM 70 of the Cikampek Utama Toll Road.
"As of this morning, we reported an estimated return flow of around 2.2 million, with approximately 1,375,000 vehicles already heading towards Jakarta. So, the estimated return flow until tomorrow morning is around 60 percent complete," said Agus in his written statement on Monday, April 7, 2025.
Based on the data he revealed, traffic accidents last year amounted to 3,728 accidents. Meanwhile, in 2025, there were 2,637 traffic accident incidents during the Eid homecoming.
"So, there has been a 30 percent decrease in the number of accidents. The fatality rate of deceased victims has decreased by 47 percent. This was during the national data operation," he said.
