Hammam Izzuddin, Jakarta – Indonesian House Member of Commission I Tubagus Hasanuddin urges Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel serving outside the 14 ministries and institutions must retire as soldiers. The PDIP-P politician hopes that TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto will immediately issue an order to withdraw his subordinates from civilian positions outside the TNI Law.
"I urge the TNI Commander to immediately issue an order so that all active soldiers serving outside the 14 authorized ministries and institutions can resign or retire in accordance with existing regulations," said TB Hasanuddin in his written statement on Friday, March 21, 2025.
The retired high-ranking TNI officer estimated that the number of soldiers affected by this change could reach thousands. Hasanuddin mentioned that many soldiers are taking office in various State-Owned Enterprises (SOE), the Hajj Organizing Agency, and other ministries and institutions.
According to him, this new regulation is part of the effort to strengthen the TNI's reform to ensure its professionalism and focus on its core duties in national defense. "We want to make sure that this program runs smoothly and that all parties perform their duties according to the rules," he said.
Earlier, Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin stated that the changes in the TNI Law were made to clarify the boundaries and mechanisms for soldiers to expand their non-military duties. He claimed that this revision clarifies the mechanisms soldiers must follow in their various duties.
"By first leaving active duty or retiring," said Sjafrie while presenting the government's views at the House's plenary session at the Parliament Complex in Senayan on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
Active TNI soldiers can occupy the 14 ministries and institutions listed in Article 47 of the TNI Law. They must retire if wishing to hold positions outside these 14.
The TNI Law was ratified in a plenary session on Thursday, March 20, 2025. All factions in the House of Representatives agreed to the revision to become law.
