Celvin Moniaga Sipahutar, Jakarta – Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has voiced full support for a government plan to deploy military personnel to secure state-owned oil refineries, calling the measure essential to safeguarding strategic national assets.

Speaking after a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the presidential palace on Wednesday, Bahlil said the state must anticipate security risks that could threaten energy infrastructure.

"There is always the potential for threats. To prevent sabotage, the presence of security personnel from the military or police is important," Bahlil told reporters.

He argued that cooperation with the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) in protecting vital energy facilities should not be seen as controversial, noting that defending national wealth is part of the military's mandate.

The announcement follows confirmation from Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin that Army personnel will be deployed to state-owned oil refineries beginning in December. Sjafrie stressed the assignment will fall under non-combat duties to protect strategic assets that concern the interests of the people.
