Defara Dhanya, Jakarta – Floods are still inundating several coastal areas of Jakarta, including the Sunda Kelapa Port area, Ancol Village, Pademangan District, North Jakarta. Today, Tuesday, December 17, 2024, the tidal flood (flooding due to maximum sea tides) at that location is 70 centimeters high.

"This condition has been like this for five days," said the canteen guard at the Sunda Kelapa Port Police, Haril (39), quoted from Antara. He said the sea tide began to overflow at around 10:45 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) and immediately flowed to the front of Jalan Lodan Raya, Pademangan.

In addition, the yard of the PT Pelindo Regional Dua Sunda Kelapa Port Office was also submerged in the same flood. The management office of the oldest port in Indonesia was submerged in water about 50 cm. In another location, tidal floods also hit the coastal tourist area in Ancol. Likewise with three RTs in Pluit Village and one RT in the Seribu Islands.

In a press conference he held on Tuesday afternoon, Acting Governor of Jakarta, Teguh Setyabudi, said that there are many factors causing the current tidal flood. In addition to the maximum sea tide due to the Full Moon phase, he also mentioned extreme weather factors such as high waves and land subsidence.

There is also the factor of the unfinished construction of the coastal embankment designed to prevent seawater from entering the land. Of the total requirement of 39 kilometers, only 22.9 kilometers of the sea wall have been realized.

"But the one that has not been built is quite long, around 16.1 kilometers," he said. "This is what we will later look at one by one. There are several points where the coastal embankment has not been built, if there is a high tide it will become a tidal flood."

Teguh further explained that the flood problem in Jakarta was not only triggered by tidal flooding, but also by river overflows and high rainfall. The Director General of Population and Civil Registration, Ministry of Home Affairs, said that Jakarta has 13 rivers and a number of flood control infrastructures, such as 593 pump houses, 47 reservoirs, and various other efforts.

The existing condition of Jakarta's flood infrastructure for macro channels can only accommodate or accommodate if the highest rainfall is 150 mm per day. Meanwhile, the supporting channels can only accommodate 100 mm per day. "Outside of that, we can't," said Teguh.

As an anticipatory measure, Teguh said that the Jakarta Provincial Government has made a number of efforts, such as socialization to the community, education, alert roll calls, including collaboration between regional apparatus organizations (OPD).
