M. Raihan Muzzaki, Jakarta – The Director General of Industrial Relations and Social Security of Manpower, Indah Anggoro Putri, stated that Jakarta Province had the highest number of layoffs as of October 28, 2024. She said that 14,501 workers were affected by layoffs in Jakarta.
'The most in Jakarta, surpassing. Amazing,' said Indah when they met at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
She said that this surpasses Central Java Province, which initially held Indonesia's highest number of layoffs. Including, said Indah, Banten Province, with the third-highest number of layoffs after Central Java. 'Until today's data, Jakarta 14,501, Central Java 11,252, Banten 10,524,' she said.
Indah said the highest number of layoffs from these three provinces occurred across various job sectors. Among them, she continued, are the processing sector, service activities, and retail traders.
She mentioned that layoffs in Indonesia continue to increase. She cannot confirm which job sectors the current layoffs come from. 'In the past, when Central Java was high, Jakarta was number two, and it turned out to be the service sector. Restaurants and cafes were heavily affected by it (layoffs). As for now, we haven't analyzed it,' said Indah.
Indah stated that as of October 30, 2024, the number of layoffs in Indonesia had reached 60,796 workers. She hopes that layoffs in various job sectors will not increase. 'I cannot estimate yet because the data changes every day. As of today, 59,796 people,' she said.
Meanwhile, Indah said that as of October 1, 2024, 52,993 workers had been affected by layoffs. The highest number of layoffs came from the manufacturing sector, with 24,013 workers.
'There are three sectors that contribute the most to the highest layoffs, namely the processing sector with a total of 24,013 workers, other service activities sector with 12,853 workers, and the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector with 3,997 workers,' said Indah when contacted by Tempo on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
