Mita Amalia Hapsari, Depok – Outgoing President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and his successor, Prabowo Subianto, attended a major National Police event on Monday to showcase the security preparedness for the upcoming presidential transition.
Both leaders wore berets of the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob), the paramilitary unit of the National Police, as they inspected personnel from an open-top tactical vehicle at the Brimob headquarters in Depok, West Java.
During the event, the National Police honored President Jokowi for his decade of leadership, awarding him the Medal of Honor and granting him honorary membership in Brimob.
"The award bestowed upon President Joko Widodo recognizes his extraordinary contribution to the development and progress of the National Police in protecting and serving the public, as well as in upholding law and order for the safety of the nation," the announcer said.
Jokowi and Prabowo appeared particularly enthusiastic as parachutists descended from the sky, carrying large photographs of both leaders.
The two men have made several joint public appearances recently, signaling a smooth transition of power. Just a day earlier, Prabowo visited Jokowi at his private residence in Solo, Central Java.
