Advist Khoirunikmah, Jakarta – Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Ridwan Kamil proposes an initiative at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Disposal Site (TPST), a colossal repository of the city's waste in Bekasi, West Java. He envisions a technological transformation that will segregate and repurpose the accumulated refuse into durable bricks.

"Our goal is to extract value from waste," he told Tempo in Kota Tua, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

The processed bricks from Bantargebang are destined to serve as a crucial component in the construction of the Giant Sea Wall project in North Jakarta. "The Giant Sea Wall is a reclamation endeavor, with 60 percent of its material sourced from the waste at Bantargebang," the former governor of West Java explained.

He emphasized that the transformation of Bantargebang waste into bricks would evolve into a national undertaking. "What was once a worthless pile of trash will now be transformed into a valuable resource," he proclaimed.

He plans to establish a dedicated division at Bantargebang to oversee the technological conversion of waste into bricks. "This is currently under development," he confirmed.

To mitigate flooding, particularly in North Jakarta, Ridwan Kamil has outlined a comprehensive plan centered around the Giant Sea Wall. "The northern coastal areas will be fortified with a Giant Sea Wall to combat flooding," he declared following a meeting with former Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso.

The Giant Sea Wall will not merely serve as a barrier but will also incorporate recreational and communal facilities, mirroring the architectural aesthetic of the planned National Capital (IKN). "As this is a new development, we aim to design it in harmony with the IKN's architectural vision," he concluded.
