Novie Fauziah, Jakarta – The name Labubu might sound unfamiliar to most, but this cute doll has skyrocketed in popularity after K-Pop idol Lisa from Blackpink was spotted accessorizing with it. Labubu has now become a coveted item among collectors worldwide, including in Indonesia.

Lisa, known for her ability to set trends with her fashion choices, has once again done so with her use of Labubu as a bag charm. Fans quickly took notice, and the doll became an instant hit, particularly among Blackpink enthusiasts.

As soon as Lisa was seen sporting the Labubu doll, fans and collectors scrambled to get their hands on it, turning it into a rare collectible. The doll's price has surged dramatically, from around Rp 400,000 ($28) to Rp 6 million, with some rare editions fetching as much as Rp 18 million.

In Indonesia, Labubu fever has spread across all age groups, from children to adults. Many are willing to wait in long lines just to get their hands on this trending doll.

On Sept. 18, a commotion occurred at Pop Mart in Gandaria City Mall, where the Labubu doll was being sold. Hundreds of people lined up as early as 4 a.m. to purchase the exclusive item. Disappointed fans, unable to get the doll despite hours of waiting, caused a minor uproar. While there were no injuries, the incident garnered significant attention.

But what exactly is Labubu? The doll is one of the characters from "The Monsters" series created by Hong Kong-based illustrator Kasing Lung. Known for his work in children's book illustrations, Lung collaborates with Pop Mart, a Chinese toy company famous for its blind box concept, where buyers don't know which toy they are getting until they open the box.

Labubu is characterized by its long ears, sharp teeth, and mischievous grin. The "The Monsters" series also features other characters like Zimomo, Spooky, Tycoco, and Pato.

Now, the Labubu doll has caught the attention of celebrities and influencers in Indonesia as well. The enthusiasm for the doll is evident, with fans willing to wait in line or use personal shopping services to acquire the adorable toy.
