Ichsan Ali, Jakarta – Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Ridwan Kamil's unique campaign promise to offer an architect in every district is facing early challenges, as a recent survey shows that it may not resonate with Jakarta voters.

According to the Political Strategy Group (PSG), residents are far more concerned with rising prices of basic commodities and job availability than with housing issues.

The survey indicates that while Ridwan's focus on housing and urban planning dominates his campaign, it is not among the top issues for most voters.

The survey revealed that the primary concern for 27 percent of respondents is the rising cost of living, followed by employment (23 percent).

Other pressing issues include security (13 percent), poverty (8 percent), traffic congestion (5 percent), small business survival (5 percent), flooding (4 percent), and corruption (3 percent). Housing issues, including the use of architects, were notably absent from the list of concerns.

PSG lead researcher Ahsan Ridhoi commented on the findings: "Ridwan Kamil's housing-related talking points aren't striking a chord with voters in Jakarta."

Ridwan, who is a renowned architect and former governor of West Java, has promised to hire an architect for every district in the city if elected in the November 27 election. His goal is to revitalize slum areas, making them more livable and aesthetically pleasing.

"My idea is 'one architect for one district,' so that Jakarta looks great not only along the Sudirman and Thamrin streets," Ridwan said during a recent talk show.

With the election drawing closer, Ridwan may need to adjust his messaging to better address the everyday concerns of Jakarta's residents.
