Stefani Wijaya, Jakarta – Indonesia's counterterrorism unit Densus 88 spokesperson Aswin Siregar revealed that YLK, a suspected terrorist, had planned a terror attack against the Singapore Stock Exchange in 2014.

YLK was captured on August 21 in Mongolato Village, Telaga District, Gorontalo Province.

An Indonesian national, YLK was affiliated with Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), a Sunni Islamist extremist group active mainly in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

"In Yemen, YLK claimed he was instructed by AM or AZ, a senior AQAP member, to carry out a terror attack on the Singapore Stock Exchange. In 2015, YLK attempted to enter Singapore via sea but was rejected by Singaporean immigration and deported to Batam," Aswin said.

Aswin also mentioned that in 2012, YLK joined Jamaah Anshor Tauhid (JAT), an Indonesian militant Islamist group founded by Abu Bakar Bashir in 2008, and participated in a program to send personnel to Yemen as part of AQAP's global jihad.

"Before joining AQAP, YLK underwent terrorist training at Camp Hudaibiyah in the Philippines from 1998 to 2000," Aswin said on Tuesday.

In 2001, YLK also participated in Muqoyama Badar Phase 2, a military training program organized by Jamaah Islamiyah, a militant Islamist organization in Southeast Asia, in East Java.

Densus 88 has confiscated evidence including a pamphlet from the banned organization Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia, a passport, and an immigration document from Singapore.
