Muhammad Aulia, Ali Achmad, Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is considering an investigation into the acquittal of Gregorius Ronald Tannur by the Surabaya District Court if evidence of corruption emerges.

KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika said that the KPK could probe the case if strong evidence of corruption is found. Ronald, the son of a former National Awakening Party legislator, was acquitted despite being accused of killing his girlfriend, Dini Sera Afriyanti, on October 3, 2023. CCTV footage showed his vehicle running over the victim.

Tessa emphasized that while the KPK is monitoring the case, any investigation into potential judicial ethical violations falls under the Judicial Commission (KY).

The KPK is prepared to collaborate with the KY or the Supreme Court (MA) if bribery evidence surfaces. "We will wait to see how the process unfolds," Tessa said on Wednesday.

The House of Representatives' Commission III has called for an investigation into the judges who acquitted Ronald: Chief Judge Erintuah Damanik, Mangapul, and Heru Hanindyo.

Surabaya District Court Head Dadi Rachmadi confirmed he was aware of Ronald's acquittal and supported the decision, saying he could neither alter nor comment on the case.

"I never questioned the evidence and statements from the police-prosecutor. I trust the judges' decision," he said on Tuesday.

Prosecutors are planning to impose a travel ban on Ronald to prevent him from leaving the country and facilitate communication.

Dini's father, Ujang Suherman, said that Ronald and his family have not apologized for Dini's death. "They have never apologized, neither publicly nor privately," Ujang said after meeting with Commission III on Monday.

Ujang criticized the Surabaya District Court's ruling and hopes for continued legal action against Ronald. He emphasized that the acquittal was unreasonable, given the prosecutor's demand for a 12-year sentence.

Gregorius Ronald Tannur, charged with aggravated assault following Dini's death, was arrested after the incident at a Surabaya mall parking lot. Dini's family lawyer, Dimas Yemahura Alfarauq, alleged that Ronald used his car to hit Dini, leaving tire marks on her hand. Ronald then transported her to an apartment and later to the hospital, where she died.
