Herlan Kanduruan Adiwisastra, Garut – Garut Police continue their investigation into mutilation involving cannibalism case in Bantar Limus Village, Cibalong District, Garut Regency, West Java Province.
Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Garut Police, Ari Rinaldo, confirmed the circulation of a video on social media showing the alleged perpetrator, who is mentally disturbed, consuming a small portion of the victim's flesh.
"When we arrested the suspect, it was evident that his mental state was disturbed. We immediately took him in for psychiatric evaluation," Ari said at Garut Police headquarters on Tuesday.
Ari said police found 12 body parts of the victim at the crime scene. Another lead discovered was that the suspect obtained a sharp object used to dismember the victim from an empty blacksmith's workshop.
"The autopsy conducted at the hospital revealed approximately 12 body parts of the victim. However, we are still working to confirm the victim's identity," he added.
Police are actively investigating the motive behind the incident. The victim's body remains at Dr. Slamet Hospital in Garut Regency for further autopsy. Authorities are also investigating the victim's identity and any connection to the perpetrator.
Prior to the incident on Sunday, a video circulated on social media showing the victim, with hands tied, being led along a highway by the perpetrator. In the video, the victim appeared to have mental health issues, bare-chested and wearing only a sarong without shoes. The perpetrator, a young man in black pants and a white t-shirt, briefly glanced towards the camera during the incident.
