We will comply, whatever the verdict: Ganjar

Jakarta – Unsuccessful presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo said on Monday that he would comply with whatever ruling was handed down by the Constitutional Court on his presidential election dispute.

Ganjar issued the statement shortly before leaving for the court building to attend the final hearing in the case.

"Pak Mahfud and I are the kind of people who abide by the law, we will comply with any decision," Ganjar told reporters on Monday morning, referring to his running mate Mahfud MD.

The Constitutional Court is scheduled to deliver its rulings on two challenges to the outcome of February's presidential election, after the losing candidates petitioned for a re-run and alleged the state had interfered in favor of winner Prabowo Subianto.

Ganjar and Anies Baswedan, the two rivals of Defense Minister Prabowo have both asked the court to disqualify Prabowo from a contest he won by a wide margin, arguing that widespread distribution of social aid in key areas had swayed the vote in his favor.

Prabowo, who won 58 percent of the vote, has dismissed this as baseless.

Ganjar and Anies also alleged tacit support from hugely popular President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo had gifted Prabowo an unfair advantage, as did the choice of the outgoing leader's son as his running mate, as a result of the same court's decision to change eligibility rules.

Anies and Ganjar, who won about 25 percent and 16 percent of the vote, respectively, insisted that Jokowi's son Gibran Rakabuming Raka should not have been allowed to run as Prabowo's vice presidential candidate and should also be disqualified.
