Achmad Ali, Surabaya – An explosion rocked the headquarters of the Bomb Squad (Gegana) Detachment of the East Java Regional Police in Morokrembangan, Surabaya, on Monday, destroying several office rooms and one vehicle.
"Today, on March 4 at 10:19 a.m., an explosion occurred at the office of the East Java Police Mobile Brigade's Bomb Squad," stated East Java Police Chief, Inspector General Imam Sugianto.
Imam explained that the explosion is suspected to have originated from remnants of explosive materials scheduled for disposal. "Coincidentally, the Bomb Squad does not yet have a standard warehouse. So, the remnants of explosive materials were stored next to the office, and this morning it exploded," clarified Imam.
The Police Chief mentioned that the explosion did not result in any casualties, but there was material damage, including the destruction of an office and a D-Max vehicle containing bomb disposal equipment.
Currently, the team is actively working on the scene. The Forensic Laboratory, assisted by the Bomb Squad, is investigating the crime scene, backed up by the Tanjung Perak Criminal Investigation Unit.
"After obtaining complete results, we will inform the media," he concluded.
The explosion led to the total closure of traffic on Gresik Street in both westward and eastward directions.
Several officers from the Tanjung Perak Port Police in Surabaya were observed securing the location. Some were directing traffic, diverting vehicles from Demak Street to Lumba-lumba Street, in Krembangan, Surabaya.
