Jakarta – Once considered the frontrunner for the February 14 presidential election, Ganjar Pranowo now ranks last among three candidates, as revealed by a recent survey conducted by Kompas newspaper and published on Monday.

The former Central Java governor is trailing behind the current poll leader, Prabowo Subianto, and Anies Baswedan.

Support for Prabowo has notably surged since he selected the son of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo as his running mate.

As per the survey conducted by the Kompas Research Division, 39.3 percent of respondents indicated their intention to vote for Prabowo, while 16.7 percent expressed support for Anies, and 15.3 percent favored Ganjar.

This latest outcome marks a reversal from the survey conducted by the same pollster in August, when Ganjar led with 34.1 percent of votes and Prabowo trailed with 31.3 percent. At that time, none of the three candidates had announced their running mates.

Following Prabowo's announcement of Jokowi's son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as his running mate in October, there has been a noticeable shift of support from the president's camp to Prabowo, said Kompas researcher Bambang Setiawan.

Gibran is also the most favored running mate, with 37.3 percent of respondents stating their inclination to vote for him, compared to 21.6 percent for Ganjar's running mate, Mohammad Mahfud MD, and 12.7 percent for Anies' running mate, Muhaimin Iskandar.

The survey also indicated a change in preference among voters of the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), which nominated Ganjar. The Kompas research revealed that the percentage of PDI-P voters supporting Ganjar dropped from 60.6 percent in August to 40.7 percent.

Furthermore, among voters who supported Jokowi in the 2019 presidential election, only 27.4 percent stated their intention to vote for Ganjar. This marks a significant decline from 48.1 percent in August.

Conversely, the percentage of former Jokowi supporters who shifted their support to Prabowo increased to 29.3 percent from 22.9 percent.

"Prabowo is also poised to receive the most votes from eligible voters who did not exercise their rights in the 2019 election," Bambang was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

The survey indicated that the number of undecided voters remains notably high, representing 28.7 percent of respondents.

Conducted from November 29 to December 4, the survey involved 1,364 respondents from all 38 provinces, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.65 percentage points.
