Antara, Jakarta – Mount Anak Krakatau, an Indonesian volcano located in the waters of the Sunda Strait, South Lampung, erupted again on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at 11:38 a.m. local time, shooting an ash column approximately 800 meters above the summit or 957 meters above sea level.

The eruption was recorded by the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 60 millimeters for approximately 33 seconds. The thick gray-black ash column was moving north of the sea.

Angga Irawan, a resident of Sebesi Island Village which is the closest residential area to the volcano, claimed that the locals were familiar with the sound of thunderous booms from Mount Anak Krakatau. "But we on Sebesi Island are always alert," Angga said.

Andi Suardi, the head of the mountain's monitoring post in Hargopancuran, Rajabasa District, said that Sebesi Island is 16.5 kilometers away from the volcano.

He called on the public and fishermen to stay clear of the volcano area within a radius of five kilometers. "Mount Anak Krakatau is currently at alert level III, Siaga," he confirmed.

From Sunday morning, Nov. 26, until Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 28, the volcano has erupted 21 times.
