Police facility in South Sulawesi attacked by unknown people

Eka Yudha Saputra, Jakarta – A police sector headquarters in South Sulawesi's Jeneponto Regency on Thursday dawn was attacked by a group of unknown people that reportedly reached 100. The attackers used Molotov explosives and stones that ransacked a police facility and caused one officer to get shot in the abdomen.

The South Sulawesi Police spokesperson commissioner Komang Suartana confirmed it and said the incident is subject to ongoing investigation. He also informed that the injured police member had been taken to a hospital for surgery.

"The individual [with the initials MM] was shot in his abdomen," said Suartana on Thursday, April 27.

The attack by roughly 100 unknown people happened at 01:45 Central Indonesia Time (WITA) which also caused a nearby building to sustain damages. As the attackers threw stones and Molotovs, witnesses claimed gunshots were heard coming from the attackers.

A few minutes later, the police member was shot after attempting to fend off the violent group by shooting warning shots, which succeeded to disperse the attackers.
