M Julnis Firmansyah, Jakarta – PSI deputy chairperson Grace Natalie on Wednesday responded to the myriad of resignations at the political party she helps lead. According to her, the wave of young party members to other political parties is inevitable in its nature.

"Us youngsters tend to lack patience. We want everything to be instant. A process means struggling for an extended period of time," said Natalie at the Djakarta Theater in Central Jakarta on February 1.

She suspects that PSI's failure in entering the parliament during the 2019 general elections was the main culprit behind the mass resignation.

"In the end, I wish those who moved to a bigger political party great success and hope they will be prepared to face the challenges there," she said.

Entering its 8th year as a political party, a number of members have chosen to jump ship ahead of the 2024 general elections. Some members claim they do not intend to pursue political careers anymore while others say they do not share the same values with the current leader.

Former PSI branch chairperson, and vocal politician, Tsamara Amany for example, resigned on April 18, 2022, after she decided to leave politics and focus on campaigning for women's rights.

Meanwhile, another known figure from PSI was Michael Victor Sianipar who left the party over differences in values they cherish. Michael, who once led the Jakarta PSI branch office resigned in December 2022 to join the Perindo Party.
