Mirza Bagaskara, Jakarta – Deputy head of the manpower division at the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) central executive board, Indra, assessed that the deadly clash at the nickel smelter facility of PT Gunbuster Nickel Industri or PT GNI was the real impact of the Job Creation Law. The clash occurred because of many problematic regulations in the law.

"Such a clash will continue to break out if issues in the regulation are not solved. It now occurred in North Morowali, it may later happen in other places," said Indra on Wednesday, January 25, 2023.

He asserted that his party has since the beginning rejected the issuance of Job Creation Law as it met with public criticism. Besides, he opined that the clash between workers must not happen if law enforcers exercise their duties well.

"Since the beginning, PKS urges President Jokowi to issue a regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) to revoke the Job Creation Law," Indra underlined.

Another member of the PKS faction, Netty Prasetiyani, also said that the controversial law brought negative impacts on the issues of manpower. She outlined that the law created a wider gap between workers and the government in determining a policy.

"Workers are in a weak position. The incident in North Morowali will not happen if the regulations are right and favor workers," Netty argued.

As widely reported, the clash at the nickel plant of PT GNI, North Morowali, Central Sulawesi occurred on Saturday, January 14, 2023, killing two Indonesian workers and one foreign worker from China.
