Eka Yudha Saputra, Jakarta – The National Police's Anti-terror Special Detachment or Densus 88 confiscated two homemade bombs from AW, a suspected terrorist and ISIS sympathizer, who was arrested in Sleman, Yogyakarta on Sunday, January 22, 2023.
Head of the squad's operation unit Sr. Comr. Aswin Siregar said the suspect used Facebook and Telegram to spread ISIS propaganda on social media. AW also uploaded a call to exercise acts of terror via his social media.
The homemade bombs were ready to use. The officers also found materials used for bomb assembly.
"AW uses FB and Telegram. There are several pieces of evidence, including two homemade bombs that have been made and their materials," said Aswin to Tempo on Monday, January 23, 2023.
Head of Public Information Bureau of the National Police Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan said the suspect AW, 39 years old, was arrested around 06:00-09:00 western Indonesian time (WIB) in the area of Jalan Pendowoharjo, Sleman.
Ramadhan explained that AW planned to carry out acts of terror using explosives. However, he stopped short of providing detail about AW's terror plan.
