Mirza Bagaskara, Jakarta – The National Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Polri Bareskrim) has named three new suspects in the case of acute kidney injury among children, the department's head Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan has reported.
The new suspects are PT Tirta Buana Kemindo, CV Anugrah Perdana Gemilang, and PT Fari Jaya Pratama. Ahmad explained that they are distributors of raw materials for syrup drugs that contain harmful substances, ethylene glycol (EG) and diethylene glycol (DEG).
"PT TBK, PT APG, and PT FJP are distributors of raw materials, not sellers of finished drugs, and they are called pharmaceutical wholesalers or PBF," said Ahmad on Monday, January 9, 2023.
He added that the suspect naming was based on the results of laboratory tests on a number of raw materials they produced that contained hazardous substances. "[Materials with] the positive lab test results have been confiscated, while [ones with] the negative results will be recorded by the National Police," he said.
Apart from that, Ahmad said that the National Police are still hunting down two owners of CV Samudra Chemical, that had been named suspects in the case.
Cases of acute kidney injury in children began with the widespread finding that children suffered the disease simultaneously, which was suspected to be due to liquid drugs containing EG and DEG at above the safe limit.
During the investigation, the National Police named two companies as suspects, the drug producer PT Afi Farma and the supplier of the drug raw material CV Samudra Chemical.
