Suherdjoko, Surakarta, Central Java – The Central Java Police will deploy 2,188 personnel to maintain security at the wedding reception of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's second son Kaesang Pangarep and his bride Erina Gudono in Surakarta on Sunday.

The couple will hold a Muslim wedding ceremony in Yogyakarta on Saturday, and the President's family will hold the reception on Sunday at Surakarta's Mangkunegara Palace.

The reception will involve a kirab (traditional procession) starting from Loji Gandrung, the Surakarta mayor's official residence, and ending at the palace. Jokowi was the city's mayor from 2005 to 2012, and his eldest son Gibran Rakabuming Raka has held the position since 2020.

Provincial police spokesman Sr. Comr. M Iqbal Alqudussy said police personnel would be divided into five task forces.

"They will guard the President's residence, Loji Gandrung, the kirab route and Mangkunegara Palace," he said.

Thousands of residents are expected to watch the parade.

"We are working with the Surakarta administration and the Indonesian Military (TNI) for security efforts," Iqbal said.

Some 6,000 invitees are expected to attend the reception and will be staying at 12 hotels in the city.

The police have prepared 15 parking locations, as well as becak (three-wheeled pedicabs) and andong (horse-drawn carriages) for the invitees.

As the event will be held on a Sunday, Iqbal said police would also send personnel to 196 churches on the day. (dre)
