M Faiz Zaki, Jakarta – The Jakarta Legal Aid (LBH) on Thursday declared its dissatisfaction with the court of ethics' decision on the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Chief, commissioner Edwin Hatorangan Hariandja, who was dishonorably discharged after he was incriminated in an alleged bribery and narcotics embezzlement.

LBH Jakarta lawyer Teo Reffelsen lamented that the ethical legal proceedings were not followed by a criminal court process for the cases that incriminated Hariandja. It is also the reason why the watchdog has urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to handle the alleged corruption in the case.

"KPK must immediately investigate allegations of corruption involving the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Chief and his subordinates," Teo said in a written statement, Thursday, September 1.

LBH Jakarta also called for police to enforce the law on every member suspected of being actively involved in the disappearance of evidence in the drug case being handled by the police. In addition, the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) should take this problem seriously as a reform of the National Police.

"The government and the House handle problems and public criticism of the Indonesian National Police seriously and actively by continuing the Police Reform agenda in an instrumental, cultural, and structural manner," he said.

Senior Commissioner Edwin Hatorangan Hariandja was dishonorably discharged through the National Police Code of Ethics Court. He was found guilty of failing to oversee and control an investigation case. Hariandja also allegedly accepted bribes from the narcotics unit chief, which sourced the money from confiscated evidence amounting to US$225,000 and S$376.
