Mirza Bagaskara, Jakarta – The Indonesian Ombudsman received reports about suspected maladministration in the Covid-19 quarantine by a number of hospitals. The report was received following complaints from the public and the Civil Society Coalition.
The Chairperson of the Jakarta Ombudsman Representative, Teguh Nugroho, said that he had received five reports that will be verified first before enquiring the parties in question.
"We have received two reports for the Jakarta Ombudsman and three reports for the National Ombudsman," he said in a press conference on December 9.
Teguh said that the reports they received are about disputes between Covid-19 patients, hospitals, and the health service. He said that the patients were required to pay a sum of money for treatment costs during quarantine at the reported hospital.
"As our friends from the Coalition said, [the cost of] health quarantine should not be borne by patients, based on regulations made by the government," said Teguh.
The Ombudsman plans to summon the hospitals and health services reported and ask for their statements. The Ombudsman will also coordinate with the Ministry of Health.
The Civil Society Coalition along with a number of residents complained about the alleged maladministration of health quarantine in a number of hospitals.
Charlie Albajili from the Coalition said that Covid-19 patients should be freed from the burden of costs during the health quarantine period, as regulated in the health quarantine law, and the outbreak handling law, among other rules.
