Jakarta – The government is thanking everyone who has helped tackle the Covid-19 pandemic and ensure the strict social restrictions are in order.

Among these heroes is Siti Nurohmah, a Covid-19 response volunteer in Karangnangka Village, Kedungbanten, Banyumas, Central Java. Health workers are currently grappling with the surge in infections. This alarming situation has prompted Siti to step in as a volunteer and help monitor patients in self-isolation.

"On behalf of Indonesia's health force, we would like to thank Nurohmah's empathy and many others who volunteered [in response to] the health workers' dedication and sacrifice in the face of the Covid-19 surge over the past few weeks," the government's Covid-19 spokesperson Reisa Broto Asmoro said in a statement on Wednesday.

She also expressed her gratitude to the Covid-19 taskforce of Banyumas police, who have assisted the military in monitoring the restrictions and making sure the street merchants stick to the curfew.

She then praised infantry captain Abdul Kholik, the captain commander of Kalideres Military Command and West Jakarta district command, for his hard work. Abdul Kholik has led the military force in guarding the Daan Mogot Covid-19 post since the stricter restrictions entered into force earlier this month.

On behalf of the government, Reisa thanked Indra Rudiansyah – an Indonesian student and Bio Farma employee involved in developing the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine. Indra is among the scientists in the Sarah Gilbert-led research team, and now more than 700 million Astrazeneca doses have made their way to 170 countries.

Reisa also expressed her thanks to the ride-hailing drivers who focused on self-recovery after being infected by Covid-19.

This has taught others the importance of self-isolation to prevent further transmission, she said.

Last but not least is the public who have observed the health protocols during eid-al Adha celebrations, from praying at home to meeting relatives via online communications.

"Also huge thanks to the hundreds of millions of others who comply with the restrictions by staying home, limiting their mobility, and tightening their health protocols in public spaces or even families," she said.

Since earlier this month, the government has imposed more stringent Covid-19 rules to curb virus transmission.

"But if all parties collaborate and pursue 'gotong royong' [mutual cooperation] during this stricter social restrictions, we will see a decline in cases and a phased reopening of social activities and economic activities," she said.
