M Yusuf Manurung, Jakarta – The Metro Jaya Police launched a new branch from its established 'Covid-19 Hunters' that will utilize online motorcycle taxi (ojek online) communities. The police find it necessary to expand the team to grassroots levels as the number of infection rates continues to climb. This new initiative was introduced on Thursday, December 17, 2020.
"Which is why I feel the need to involve each and everyone to collectively fight and break the chain of Covid-19 infection," said Metro Jaya Police Inspector General Fadil Imran during the launch.
According to Fadil, there are 8,000 members from the online motorcycle taxi communities that are involved in this project, which Fadil hoped to be the backbone for the prevention of coronavirus infection.
Previously on December 4, 2020, police launched the "Covid-19 Hunters" that consists of personnel from the police, military, and Jakarta administration officials. One of the tasks the team endures is to search for people who test positive for covid-19 but are still conducting public activities.
