A 15-year-old girl, who was sexually abused by people close to her, has been sentenced to two years in prison after she was found guilty for the murder of her 5-year-old neighbor.
The sentence for the girl, who is identified by her initials NF, was more lenient than the six years sought by prosecutors.
NF will serve her sentence at Handayani children's rehabilitation center in East Jakarta. There, the Social Affairs Ministry said she will get her right to an education.
In early March, NF drowned the victim, APA, in a bathtub and hid his body in her closet. NF and APA were neighbors and known to be close.
NF then turned herself in to the police, confessed to the murder and had shown no remorse. Instead, she told the police that she felt satisfied, and a narrative was established in the mass media that she was a psychopath due to her obsession with horror movies and characters.
However, upon examining NF, the Social Affairs Ministry found that she was deeply mentally scarred as she was raped by people close to her, who were later revealed to be two of her uncles and her boyfriend.
NF is currently pregnant as a result of the sexual abuse. Her three rapists were arrested in May but have yet to go on trial.
