Lani Diana Wijaya, Jakarta – The Head of Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, reported that last week's number of new coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in the capital increased from 50 to 109 cases on average per day.
"This means there are violations against the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB), and that have an impact on the hike in positive cases in Jakarta," said Syafrin in a virtual discussion on Tuesday, May 19.
Syafrin confirmed the trend in positive cases began to rise for the last two weeks. Based on the officer's monitoring, there were a total of 40,660 PSBB violations in 18 checkpoints and 384 violations in six terminals.
Among the violations are over-capacity of passenger numbers in each vehicle and the passengers did not wear face masks. The data was collected from the beginning of the PSBB enforcement on April 10 until May 17, 2020.
The city's transportation agency also discovered 64 public transportations, such as Microbus or elf and intercity and interprovincial (AKAP) buses, carrying people for mass exodus or mudik despite the prohibition.
"Violations against PSBB orders are quite rampant," Syafrin remarked.
Jakarta sees a fluctuating number of Covid-19 cases. As of May 18, there are 6,010 positive cases, 483 deaths, and 1,301 recoveries.
