Friski Riana, Jakarta – Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko suggested every household in Indonesia to breed chickens as part of the stunting prevention program. The chickens are expected to lay eggs, which later can be consumed by children in the family.
"Every household must have their chickens, so the eggs can be consumed by children in the family," said Moeldoko at the Bina Graha Building in Jakarta on Friday, November 15, 2019.
According to Moeldoko, a similar program was once applied by the Indian government that called for its citizens to consume two eggs each day, and is currently raised to fiveeggs.
"This needs to be thought about. I think every family needs to breed chickens. That would be important as people no longer need to purchase [eggs]," said Moeldoko.
The suggestion was made following the government's research on stunting that found stunting prevalence in 2013 had increased by 37.2 percent. The government, according to Moeldoko, has dropped that percentage to 30.8 percent in 2018.
