Fikri Arigi, Jakarta – The Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (ICJR) said the police cannot follow up on PDIP politician Dewi Tanjung's report. Dewi reported Novel Baswedan to the Jakarta Police, accusing the KPK investigator of fabricating the attack against him.

ICJR said that Article 10 of the Law on Witness and Victim Protection stated that a victim could not be criminally prosecuted for the testimony and/or report that he or she had given or will give.

"The ICJR believes that [Dewi's] police report is a threat to Novel Baswedan's safety as a victim in a crime against him," ICJR executive director Anggara said on Friday, November 8.

ICJR added that the LPSK must intervene because of the threatening nature of Dewi's report, as regulated in Law No.13/2006 on the Protection of Witnesses and Victims.

Anggara reminded the police that President Joko Widodo had given a new deadline to the Police Chief to solve Novel Baswedan's case. Widodo gave the police until early December 2019 to finish the investigation.

"The ICJR asks the police force to focus on solving the case of the attack on Novel," Anggara said.
