Nindya Astuti, Jakarta – Terrorism, and intelligence expert Harits Abu Ulya called for Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Wiranto to do self-introspection on past statements he made that might have been hurtful toward the general public.

"On another note, there is an intriguing reality where people yearn for state officials to practice self-control and avert from issuing policies or statements that are hurtful. If not, it would motivate people to conduct attacks," said Harits in a written statement on Thursday, October 10.

He argues that Wiranto, as a public servant, should better serve his people and believes the suspect's attack was partly due to the minister's own doing.

Harits acknowledges and understands that his analysis might spark speculations alleging him to be sympathizing toward the perpetrator. However, he maintains that it is the most rational approach to read into the unfortunate incident.

"In this context, and in the field of terrorism, we can borrow a precise method of analysis to understand why law enforcers or a state official become the targets of violence or terror done by a small group of people," said Harits.

On Thursday, Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Security Affairs was stabbed by a man after visiting Mathla'ul Anwar Boarding School in Pandeglang, Banten.
