Jakarta (Antara) – Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Yohana Susana Yembise publicly urged the House of Representatives (DPR) to pass the bill against sexual violence (RUU PKS) that has yet been amended.

The minister said there have yet been any discussions taking place between the government and DPR regarding the Bill.

"We have received information that the Bill will be discussed by the House's upcoming term with new legislators in place," said Yohana today during her work visit to Bintan District in Riau Islands.

She said that a survey done by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that one out of three women in Indonesia is victims of sexual violence in the past. One out of seven boys and girls have also experienced forms of violence either sexually, physically, or psychologically. This includes child abandonment.

Minister Yohana asserts that the bill against sexual violence is purely meant to suppress the number of sexual violence cases happening across Indonesia, especially those felt by women and children.

"We hope there would be no more cases like this in the future with the presence of the RUU PKS," said the Minister.
