Yudha Baskoro – The Indonesian Navy's Armada Jaya XXXVII naval training session took place in the Java Sea just north of Surabaya in East Java from Wednesday to Friday.

The large-scale training involved 8,493 Navy personnel, 18 warships, nine airplanes and featured the Navy's complete arsenal of armory.

The training included battle simulations involving the warships KRI Usman Harun 359, KRI Fatahillah 361, KRI Yos Sudarso 353 and KRI John Lie 358.

The Navy sailors received training in sea survival, helicopter rescue, overpowering submarine hazards and launching airstrikes with 12.7-mm machine guns and 76-mm OTO-Melara long-range single cannon.

They also spent a considerable time simulating launching surface and underwater torpedoes.

Apart from testing and improving the skills of the Navy sailors, the training also tested the limits of the Navy's warships and their weaponry.

"We are the protectors of Indonesia's maritime security," said Rear Admiral Yudo Margono, the commander of the Indonesian Navy's 1st Fleet on board the KRI Abdul Halim Perdanakusuma on Friday.

"Indonesia shares nautical borders with 10 countries. The Navy must be able to counter smuggling, piracy, illegal fishing or other problems, such as sea skirmishes in the Natuna Sea. This training will prepare us well for these actions," Yudo said.
