M Rosseno Aji, Jakarta – A joint fact-finding team (TGPF) for Novel Baswedan case has completed the investigation of the acid attack against the senior investigator of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The team would submit the report to National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian in the near future.

"The report will be sent to Police Chief this week," said the team member Hendardi to Tempo, Monday, July 8.

Hendardi explained that the team was required to present the report and recommendations to the Police Chief and therefore entrusted him to follow up the report, including a plan to publicize it to the public.

The founder of Setara Institute was reluctant to expose the team's findings. "The authority to announce it belongs to Police Chief."

The police formed a joint team for Novel case that was comprised of police members, experts, and KPK employees, on January 8, 2019. The team's working term would end on July 7. Throughout the past six months, the team tested witnesses' testimonies in Malang, Ambon, and Bekasi, reconstructed the crime scene, as well as examined Novel Baswedan in June.

The Anti-corruption Civil Society Coalition assessed the police team had failed to uncover the unknown assailants considering it did not find significant findings. The coalition coordinator Wana Alamsyah said that the team grilled the victim similar questions without showing new evidence.

The coalition, Wana added, demanded President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo establish an independent joint fact-finding team that works under the president, instead of the police. "We deems the police has failed," said the researcher at Indonesia Corruption Watch.
