Jakarta – Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) officers and firefighters in Agam, West Sumatra, recently shut down five orgen tunggal music performances at wedding parties for being held after 6 p.m.
Orgen tunggal shows, featuring bands playing dangdut and pop songs, are a popular form of entertainment in Indonesia.
The chief of the Agam Satpol PP and fire brigade (Satpol PP-Damkar) Yul Amar said three shows were shut down in Lubukbasung district and two in Ampeknagari district.
According to Yul, music performances are prohibited from being held after 6 p.m under a 2009 regional bylaw (Perda) on public order and a 2016 regent decree on traditional arts and music performances.
The decree stipulates that music performances must stop at 6 p.m sharp. Moreover, musicians are required to obtain a permit if they wish to perform.
"The performances needed to be stopped, in accordance with the law. We have shut down 70 shows this year," Yul said as quoted by Antara.
The Agam administration previously communicated the rules to the public through a public announcement. The rules state that non-traditional music performances can only be held from 8 a.m to 6 p.m, while traditional art performances are permitted to be held from 8 a.m to 12 a.m local time. (dpk)
