Jakarta crime rate drops 24 percent in 2019

Adam Prireza, Jakarta – Jakarta Metro Police Chief Insp. Gen. Eddy Pramono announced the police's Ketupat Jaya operation succeeded in reducing the number of criminal cases and accidents compared to the same period last year.

Ketupat Jaya operation is the city police's annual operation held during Eid homecoming and holiday season, which is held from May 29-June 10, 2019.

Gatot mentioned the number of traffic violation cases declined by 6 percent or 28,849 cases from last year's 30,783 cases. From the figure, the accident rate also dropped 53 percent. Only three accidents were recorded from previously seven cases in 2018.

The number of criminal cases also decreased. "The crime rate drops 24 percent from 307 cases to 234 cases," said Gatot during today's ceremony on the consolidation of 2019 Ketupat Jaya operation and the security preparation of election dispute (PHPU) in Monas field, Central Jakarta, Thursday, June 13.

The operation involved 6,226 joint personnel; 3,206 from Jakarta Police taskforce (Satgas), 2,375 from the city Resort Police taskforce, 90 from Indonesian Military (TNI), 455 from the city administration, and 100 personnel from toll road operator Jasa Marga.

Police also opened 88 security posts, 27 service posts, and 2 motorcycle checkpoints spread across 13 Jakarta Resort Police.
